SHIN-KOKURA Thermal Power Station
Kitakyushu City, the gateway to Kyushu, has been a crucial hub for maritime and land transportation since ancient times. Designated as the seventh government-ordained city in Japan in 1963, it has developed along the Kanmon Straits and the Genkai Sea. While forming one of the leading industrial zones in Japan in the city center, it is surrounded by abundant nature such as the sea and mountains. Traditional events, especially the Kokura Gion Daiko, are deeply rooted in the lives of the people. In the heart of this city with a population of one million, in the Kokura and Hiagari districts, is the Shin-Kokura Thermal Power Station. This power station is the first LNG exclusive combustion thermal power station for Kyushu Electric Power, and it is working tirelessly day and night to deliver stable electricity to homes and factories. Moreover, the power station, which occupies an area of 400,000 square meters (about 5.8 times the size of the Fukuoka Dome), has greened more than 25% of its premises, contributing to the creation of a lush environment.
