Kazuhisa Takeuchi Mayor of the City of Kitakyushu

As the mayor of the City of Kitakyushu, allow me to extend a warm welcome to the ICEE Conference2024

Ever since the Imperial Steel Works, Japan started operations in 1901, Kitakyushu has bolstered the industrial modernization and rapid growth of Japan as a manufacturing city, mainly in the steel, machinery, and chemical industries. Recently we have been working to develop into a hub for renewable energy such as offshore wind power by leveraging our robust air, port, and road infrastructure. We have also become a gateway for Kyushu and other Asian countries, with companies representing industries of the future such as ICT making a foray into our city.

Surrounded by ocean and mountains, Kitakyushu also boasts a lush natural landscape. We are blessed with a variety of fresh foods from the sea and have a rich food culture. Our city also features a wide range of tourist attractions, including Kokura Castle, where you can experience traditional Japanese culture, and the Mojiko Retro District with its majestic view of the Kanmon Strait, where many important historical events took place. Kitakyushu is also famous for its nightscape. In fact, we have been selected as No. 1 of Japan’s New Three Most Spectacular Night Views. I hope that everyone here experiences all the amazing things the city has to offer during their stay.

Lastly, I would like to express my best wishes for the continued success and growth of the ICEE2024 Conference. Thank you again for coming to our city.
